WindowOrWorkerGlobalScope.origin

This is an experimental technology
Because this technology's specification has not stabilized, check the compatibility table for usage in various browsers. Also note that the syntax and behavior of an experimental technology is subject to change in future versions of browsers as the specification changes.

The origin read-only property of the WindowOrWorkerGlobalScope interface returns the origin of the global scope, serialized as a string.

Syntax

var myOrigin = self.origin; // or just origin

Value

A USVString.

Examples

Executed from inside a worker script, the following snippet will log the worker's global scope's origin to the console each time it receives a message

onmessage = function() {
  console.log(self.origin);
};

If there origin is not a scheme/host/port tuple (say you are trying to run it locally, i.e. via file:// URL), origin will return the string "null".
