This feature is non-standard and is not on a standards track. Do not use it on production sites facing the Web: it will not work for every user. There may also be large incompatibilities between implementations and the behavior may change in the future.

This feature is obsolete. Although it may still work in some browsers, its use is discouraged since it could be removed at any time. Try to avoid using it.

The obsolete and non-standard method back() on the Window interface returns the window to the previous item in the history. This was a Firefox-specific method and was removed in Firefox 31. Use the standard history.back() method instead.

Return value

This simple example handles a click on a "Back" button by calling back().

function handleMyBackButton() {
  if (canGoBack) {

This is not part of any specification.

Browser compatibility

This non-standard method was only implemented in Firefox, and was removed in Firefox 31.
