This feature is not on a current W3C standards track, but it is supported on the Firefox OS platform. Although implementations may change in the future and it is not supported widely across browsers, it is suitable for use in code dedicated to Firefox OS apps.

This API is available on Firefox OS for internal applications only.

Retrieval of connection types is now done via the MozNetworkStatsManager.getAvailableNetworks method.


The connectionTypes property is a list of all possible monitored connection types by the current device.

There are currently two connection types available:

  • wifi: for statistics regarding data usage over wifi networks
  • mobile: for statistics regarding data usage over mobile networks


var types = navigator.mozNetworkStats.connectionTypes;


Returns an Array of strings.
