Waldo: what's the status of this migration? Do you need/want help with getting it finished? -- dria 13:49, 11 Aug 2005 (PDT)
I would like to know if the Errata as listed on http://www.mozilla.org/projects/xpcom/book/cxc/ are already included in this version of the book. Maybe this should stated on Creating_XPCOM_Components. Another thing I am interessted in is why there are two versions present on the official mozilla servers (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/xpcom/book/cxc/) and the wiki version. --Felix.Schwarz 13:54, 12 September 2005 (PDT)
- The errata are more or less fixed in the wiki version, although I won't guarantee I've fixed everything yet. (That remains to be done when I finish the text->wikitext conversion, have images and other such things uploaded, and have working links throughout.) I have at least one erratum sitting in my mailbox waiting for me to correct it, too, so I'll almost guarantee what's there isn't perfect yet.
- As for why there are two versions, the reason is that historically all this stuff has been kept on the main www server, making it more controllable but simultaneously harder to change. Moving documentation to a wiki makes the documentation easier to edit and keep up-to-date (and also makes localization into not-English languages worlds easier), and consequently we've been moving things piece by piece from www.mozilla.org to developer.mozilla.org. CXC is just one such item, and currently it's in an in-between phase between being unmoved and fully moved. The plan is eventually to set up HTTP redirects for stuff that gets fully moved, so you could go to http://www.mozilla.org/projects/xpcom/book/cxc/ and you'd get transparently redirected to Creating XPCOM Components. I haven't been following Devmo as closely recently as I have in the past, tho, so I don't know when the great redirecting will start, happen, or finish (or even whether it'll be one big redirect-fest as opposed to a piecemeal effort as people find things which are fully migrated but duplicated elsewhere).
- Anyway, hope that helps. Ask if you have more questions. --Waldo 00:09, 20 September 2005 (PDT)
Has this migration been abandoned, or was it finished years ago? The www version is still up instead of redirecting. Are there any differences between the versions, and if so, which is the newer version? This seems like important documentation that shouldn't be left hanging in a weird state like this. - I was about to point you to User:Waldo#Stuff_In_Progress, but noticed that your question was answered just above. Nothing has changed since that time, afaik. --Nickolay 07:14, 4 June 2007 (PDT)
Why is this page tagged "Junk"? If it is technically superceded but still useful in context, it should be tagged "Obsolete". If it is technically out of date and no longer useful, it should be tagged "Archive". -- jswisher 28 June 2011
