ETHICS AND SOCIAL IMPICATIONS

The discussion to follow uses stem cell research performed by scientists in the United Kingdom and the applications of stem cell research as the basis for this argument.

Societies, myths and legends often seek a perfect society with perfect citizens. The search for perfection has been told in stories such as King Arthur and his quest for the holy grail. St. Agustin in his book The City of God writes, “ For to this earthly city belong the enemies against whom I have to defend the city of God…..Show pity to the humbled soul, and crush the sons of pride" (“Agustin,Fathers….Book 1, Chap.1).

Today some Muslims preach of a great Jihad, with a similar fervor. For them, the jihad will bring about a perfect society of perfect people. (“Jihad and humanity…” paras 6-7). students.iiit.ac.in/~arfat/jihad.html

With the advance of the scientific and medical communities, we can say that the pursuit of perfection is actually not in the hands of a god but rather, it is in the bravery of those knights on ancient battle fields, today scientists impart on the quest for their own holy grail- Stem cells.

The aim of this paper is to present a critical view of what scientists are doing in this field especially in the United Kingdom, and to create awareness of the ethical and social implications that stem cell research can bring to our world.

Scientific Background

Stem cells that have potential for self- renewal are found in the mammalian embryo, and best extracted 5-7 days after fertilization. These cells are said to be in the purest form at this state. Scientists also use stem cells from umbilical cord blood. (“ Cambridge genetic knowledge park”….March2005 1.1 para 1-6)

The goal of many scientists is to be able to use these cells, to restore some damaged tissues and organs, or to alter those cells that contain genetically inherited diseases. Scientists hope to use stem cells to cure or treat Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and some type of diabetes. In certain cases, the procedure could be autologous (directly from the patient’s umbilical cord blood) or allogenic (unrelated but immunologically matched donor). (“ Cambridge genetic knowledge park”….1.1 para-12-15) http://www.iscb.cam.ac.uk/eu-060725.

Scientists are studying the possibilities of using these practices in different levels of stem cell usage. Cell nuclear replacement is a method used to prevent the immune system from rejecting the donor. This method is similar to cloning procedures, which is done by injecting the nucleus from a person’s organ cell into an egg that has had the nucleus removed. The egg then takes on the generic code from the implanted nucleus and serves as the environment for the replication of those cells.

Non-embryonic stem cell research (ES), has been termed just “stem-cell therapy, it has as main purpose the goal of deriving cells without being implanted in a woman’s uterus.

Moral and Ethics

According to the Bible, both man and woman were created in the image of God- Let us make a man-someone like ourselves (“Genesis” 1:24-27), and therefore according to some religious opponents of stem cell research, when we see any one of them in any state of existence, we see God. In stem cell research, in order to obtain the embryo that produces the good cells, must be destroyed around 5-7 weeks before fertilization, when the cells are harvested from the part of the embryo called the inner- cell mass. If a person believes that any stage of humanity is a stage of being in “the image of God”, then that person would see the destruction of that life as the destruction of God.

The argument supporting this theory launched from the question, at what stage does a fetus acquire full personhood and the moral rights that go along with it? According to Dr. Sun Hun Lee of theUnification Church in his book, “Unification Thought”, The Original (Human) Nature is the true character of man as created by God. Human beings have fallen and deformed their Original Nature. Thus, in order to come back to the Original Nature man must know what it is like. (Lee Sun Hun “Unification Thought”…ch1-sect B).

“The word existence comes from the Latin ‘existential’. - At first it meant to exist (sistere) out of something (ex), that is, it meant more to happen rather than to exist. Then in scholastic philosophy it came to be used as the word showing the actual existence or movement of a thing to distinguish it from the essence or true nature of the thing”. (Lee Sun Hun “Unification Thought”…ch1-sect B).

This basically means that we inherit the true characteristics of our creator and that our creator is perfect, that we are born from our mother’s womb, we grow through the stages of infancy (birth to 2 years old), early childhood (3 to 8 years old), middle childhood (9 to 11 years old), and adolescence (12 to 18 years old). At the age of 21, we are supposed to be in the stage of perfection or at an age of responsibility. To clarify the development level or stage of “Perfection” the nine months of pregnancy must be taken into consideration.

If we have this process for experimentation purposes only, and if we don’t know if it is going to succeed or not, then that margin of error is the one in question. Shall we take the risks necessary or stick to the fundamental questions of the old church?. Perhaps here is where the “Knights” are needed to defend the Queen and King of mankind’s future-stem cell research.

Embryonic Stem Cell Research (ES).

The study done in the United Kingdom is governed by the “Human Fertilization and Embryology Act of 1990”. Under this act any embryo older than 14 days is not allowed. After 14 days the neurulation occurs and the central nervous system appears. (.Panno. J “Stem cell Reseach”……. ch7 para 81-83).

This legislation administered by the HFEA about embryonic stem cell, has been a unique effort, and with the government blessings the scientific community, was created to regulate the practice of vitro fertilization(IVF), which was also originated in Great Britain with the birth of the first “test tube” baby, Louise Brown, in 1978. The license is granted only if the research follows these regulations: Promotes the treatment for infertility, if it pursues knowledge about congenital diseases, if it increases knowledge about miscarriages, and if it allows early detection of chromosome abnormalities in embryos before implantation. (.Panno.J “Stem cell Reseach”……. ch7 para 81-83).

The policy allows researchers, to do whatever it takes to reach their ultimate goal of serving the whole world population with the cure to all diseases. Perhaps this will allow science to design the man of the future, who will be free of inherited imperfections.

The conclusion or catalysis for this argument should be, of how much and how soon these results will be effective for us all, of what will be the damages to the human spirit, if the effects or the adaptation to these new concepts will cause a new social reformation. To allow ourselves to believe that God really intended for us to take command of creation at this new stage, then no-matter what the church or the ones who oppose it may say, this will go further into bringing results, and I believe positive ones. The stem cell research should be regulated properly, so the principle may be respected, for the fact that if we learn the principle that rules the universe, then we will be giving joy back to God and we will be called the ones who inherited the earth. (“Genesis” 2:7-10)

POEMS

Two Crowns Among the many one is chosen, to serve the Lord eternally to bring about salvation to resolve sin and subjugation.

Bring the banners and flags from all over, gather all in this Promised Land, pick the best and offer it at the altar, bow to the Highest the Redeemer of mankind.

As we are born from Adam and Eve, Our True Parents are the King and Queen, our ancestors of pure lineage, blood of God, the chosen children.

couples, clans, tribes and nations, they all under one command from God, joyfully to follow the Divine Principle, and to sing aloud to the Lord.

The Lord of eyes The lines of a triangle line up, to form the vertex of love, the middle accurate point of life, projected into the infinite top.

This temple well measured prepared, in the early morn as the light brakes in, and finds that point that conveys aligned, with the time, the speed and the space.

Once it hits on the vortex defined, a big sound of joy is pronounced, and many stars spark bright on the sky, as the fire works on the 4th of july.

Hidden Images Just behind we see, there is another world to be, is more real, more pure and free, is the one that provides freedom to the slave in me.

The essence beyond matter, the core of creating something from nothing, the impression of catching glimses in the air, of an image that exists behind the eye of the seer.

We are part of that invisible sight, we are all those things low and high, we are rational because of light, we are the center of that world of Might.

Petals Encrusted in diamonds and pearls, they bright as the early morn touch their curls, fresh air that caress their surfaces, the smell as we approach their lands.

They fall sometimes as they stand, as many people keep them in books as reminders, or they dry them up for aroma pleasentness, that cleans and mixes with the air rancidness.

We give them to people as celebration of life, as completion of a new season, we give them to heroes and winners, they are a gift of love and appreciation.

Appreciation The honor of the mother to the son, or the father's pride of being one, is the thanks parents sing in unison, when they have the first born.

The smile that the teacher brings, when the pupil promptly responds the answer, the graduate when he receives his laurels, the inventor when he patents his findings.

To bend down in complete subjugation, to the one above who is Mighty exaltation, to believe in oneself with all intention, to give more than receive in inspiration.

THE UNIFICATION THOUGHT

I will base this discussions about the Original Mind, and the projections of it in the field of Religion and Science by my own experiences with the Principle. First we go to the Unification Thought and define the Original Mind as the Sungsang and the Hyung Sang of our lives. Like a blue print of a house, the architect is the Sunsang part to originate an idea and make it a reality through the Hyungsang part, which is the scientific approach to the idea with Mathematical Principles, that make possible for that house to stand. Now because I am a member of the Unification Church for 33 years I will try to relate to you, my experiences with those two parts of the Mind. First my Sungsang developed in me the manipulation of ideas for others, instead of being able to say I will do that for myself, like starting a business on my own and becoming rich, like becoming a leader of a group that will build an ideology that will contradict the purpose of the Principle: to bring joy to our source of creation. Second my Hyunsang developed the love for learning and being involved with technical principles and discovery, I became an Electronic Computer Technician, and all I see is the Original Mind working through the progress of technology and the building of a better and happier world, for all of us. That is the Divine Principle itself shining brightly inside of a fiber optic connection, or inside of a plasma television, with all the chemical gases inserted to a vacuum frame that will transform pixels into a moving picture. The Inventors are very close to the Original mind and therefore to the Principle. We inherited a beautiful mind from the Creator. Let’s enjoy it for a peaceful purpose not for our own destruction. Now let’s review the main concepts of the Original Mind.

THEORY OF THE ORIGINAL MIND

Unification Thought begins with God. Its fundamental postulate is that God has created humankind and the universe in God's own likeness. Accordingly, it holds that in God there can be found the standard for solving actual problems of the individual and society. Consider the example of a watch, which is a man-made object. When a watch is broken, a jeweler repairing it takes as the standard the condition of the watch when it was made. For another example, a doctor wanting to cure a patient's illness call does so by using the condition of a healthy person as the standard. Something similar call be said about saving fallen humankind and society: Human problems can be solved only through knowing the standard of creation when God first created humankind and the universe, and then pursuing solutions in that direction. Since God created humankind and the universe in His own likeness, in order to solve actual problems, we must ask what kind of being God is; in other words, we must start with the attributes of God. God, humankind, and all other creations are "beings," but they are not on the same level. God is the Creator, whereas humankind and other creations are created beings. Thus, in Unification Thought, God is referred to as the "Original Being;" human beings and other creations, "existing beings." When questioning what God is like, we are actually asking about the attributes of God. We call the attributes of God the "Original Image," and we call the theory concerning those attributes the 'Theory of the Original Image." The question of what God is like is generally connected with that of the origin of the universe. The theoretical field that deals with the origin of the universe is called "ontology," which forms the very foundation of a thought system. Thus, a thought system, in most cases, has an ontology that is unique to itself, and upon that basis, it deals with the problems of human beings and society. God and the origin of the universe have traditionally been important topics of discussion in religions and thought systems. Yet, the traditional views of God and the universe provided by existing ontologism have not been able to put forward fundamental solutions to actual problems of human beings and society. This means that the traditional ontological views of God and the universe have themselves been insufficient; that is to say, they have not conveyed a correct understanding of God and the origin of the universe. Therefore, the need for a new view of God, and a new ontology, has arisen.

THE ORIGINAL SUNGSANG

The Original Sungsang, or God's Sungsang, is the part of God corresponding to mind and represents the fundamental cause of the invisible aspect, or functional aspect, of all created beings. The invisible aspect of created beings correspond to mind in human beings, to instinct in animals, to life in plants, and to physicochemical character in minerals. God's Sungsang is manifested in the created world in various dimensions, forming the different levels of invisible aspect. To specify, in minerals, God's Sungsang is almost dormant and manifests itself only symbolically. In plants, God's Sungsang manifests itself on a higher dimension. In animals, it manifests itself on an even higher dimension. In human beings, God's Sungsang manifests itself to the fullest degree. A further analysis of the original Sungsang shows that it contains the aspect of function and the aspect of form, which are called Inner Sungsang and Inner Hyungsang, respectively. The Inner Sungsang has the faculties of intellect, emotion, and will; and the Inner Hyungsang contains ideas, concepts, original laws, mathematical principles, and so forth. The Inner Sungsang is the subject part within the Sungsang and the Inner Hyungsang is the object part within the Sungsang. The intellect is the faculty of cognition; the emotion is the faculty of feeling -- the faculty to feel joy, anger, sadness, comfort, etc.; and the will is the faculty of volition the faculty to desire, to intend, to determine, etc. Furthermore, the intellect has the faculties of perception, understanding, and reason. Perception refers to the ability to receive representations, or images, triggered by an object. Understanding refers to the ability to make judgments by using concepts. Reason refers to the ability to infer by using concepts and to comprehend universal truths and the essence of things. (from the Unification Thought study guide)

COMMENTARY ABOUT OUR MIND'S EVOLUTION!

Let's disallow for a moment all the annals of history and come back to the very first minute we inherited reasoning. There was light and the morn was full with freshness of the plants that had been developed for thousand of years, the animals were us and we roammed naked without any inhibitions, perhaps some hair in our asses, and some of us had big teeth, there was no measurement of time, but everything was harmonious and had the continuity principle at hand to fulfill the day. Then,.... one sunny day, we felt asleep and when we woke up, there were leaves covering our bodies, (figuratevely please), we tried to get them off but we felt unconfortable, then we run to the pond and then, we looked our reflected images on the water for the first time, we got confussed for a while, but we came back many times to see if we were still there.

Here's a short guide to creating and editing pages in the MDC wikis. You're welcome to practice your wiki skills in the Sandbox.

Editing pages

To edit a page you will first have to create an account on the wiki. Do this by going to the User login page and then filling out and submitting the form. Once you've created an account, you will automatically be logged in and able to edit.

In the right-hand column of every page you will now see an "Edit" link. Clicking this link brings you to the editing form for the page, where you can make and preview whatever changes you wish to make, then save them into the wiki. Once you save your edits, you'll be able to see them immediately on the page.

Starting a new page

The easiest way to start a new page is to create a link for it on your user page, then use that link to enter the "Edit" mode for the page.

To get to your user page, click on your user name in the top blue bar of the wiki. If you haven't added anything to your user page, you'll be brought immediately into the editing form for the page where you can add whatever content you like.

Creating a link to the page you want to add is as simple as writing the title for the page enclosed with double square brackets, like this: [[Here is an example]]. When saved, that will be turned into a link, like this: Here is an example.

If the page doesn't already exist, the link will be in red. If it does already exist, the link will be in blue. Should you want to create a new page but the page title you want is already taken, check first to see if it makes more sense to help edit and improve the page that's already there. Otherwise, think of a different title for your new page and create a link for it.

When you want to add content to your new page, simply click on the red link you just created and start writing. Remember to use the "Save page" button at the bottom of the editing form to save your work (be sure to save often if you're working on a long piece).

Page naming guide

For more information about creating and naming new pages, see our page naming guide.

Wiki markup

If you click "Edit" in the right-hand column now, you'll see that the text of this page contains some special characters, for example the "==" marks around headings and the "[{{mediawiki.external(' ]')}}" brackets around links. This is a very simple form of textual markup unique to wiki systems. The power of this markup system is that it's easy to learn and tends to be pretty forgiving if you make a mistake.

Wiki markup reference

We have a full wiki markup reference you can use to learn the markup language as you're editing the wiki.

Writing, editing, and reviewing

Here's a slightly longer introduction to the MDC for writers, editors, and reviewers.

Writers

The MDC is always interested in new content, so you're encouraged to write new articles on whatever topics we currently cover in the wiki. New content can be as simple as a one page tip or as complex as a book-length programming guide or reference. The amount of new content you contribute is entirely up to you.

Bugs in the Mozilla project's Bugzilla database that impact documentation should be tagged with the dev-doc-needed keyword. This is another great way to find items that may require documentation. Typically, only bugs for which changes have already been checked into the source code should be written up. When the required documentation changes have been made, the dev-doc-complete keyword should be added to the bug.

If you're going to undertake a large project, I suggest you join the MDC community and discuss it there first in case someone else is planning to start (or has already started) a similar project.

Refer to our writer's guide if you have questions about style or usage policies within the wiki.

Editors

Copy editing is always welcomed in this wiki, particularly to improve or correct writing style, grammar, or spelling. Please see our writer's guide for more information.

Reviewers

Technical improvements and review are always welcome. If you're reading through a page and spot a technical error (be it in code or text), please feel free to correct it. If it is a controversial change, make a note in the "talk" page (accessed by clicking the "Discuss" link in the right-hand column) and leave a note that outlines your reasons for the change.

Writer's guide

We have a writer's guide outlining preferred writing style practices for the MDC wiki. If you have questions about usage and style that aren't covered there, I recommend referring to the Economist style guide or, failing that, the Chicago Manual of Style.

We will be expanding the guide over time, so if you have specific questions that aren't covered by the writer's guide, please send them to the MDC mailing list or developer documentation lead.

Migrating old documentation

One longer ongoing subproject at the MDC is to migrate all currently existing developer documentation from the mozilla.org web site into the MDC wiki. The procedure is fairly simple:

  1. Pick a document you would like to migrate from the existing content list.
  2. Refer to the page naming guide and decide what the page or pages for that document should be called in the wiki.
  3. Create those pages and migrate the content, marking it up as best you can using the wiki markup reference as a guide.
  4. Delete the item from the existing content list.
  5. Add the item to the needs redirect list.

If you're keen on doing a comprehensive job on this, you'll also:

  1. Use our search system to search for any links to the original document in the wiki, then change those links so they point at the new wiki page.
  2. Check for external redirects to the original document, and flag those redirects for deletion by putting them in the "Junk" category by adding [[Category:Junk]].

Localizing the MDC

If you're interested in helping translate the documentation in any of the MDC wikis to another language, simply visit the relevant language's wiki and create or edit pages.

Existing localization projects

Currently the MDC has wikis for the following languages: Català, 中文(简体), Deutsch, English, Français, Italiano, 日本語, Nederlands, Polski, Português, Español, 한국어, 中文(正體), Русский.

How to start a new localization project

If you would like to start a new localization project for a language we don't currently have a wiki for, please read the localization projects page and follow the instructions there.

Resolving "edit wars" or other conflicts

If for whatever reason you end up in an "edit war" on a page, where two or more people are continually and repeatedly making and reverting changes, please try to resolve the conflict with the people involved first.

Should no resolution be possible, please bring it to the attention of either (ideally) the MDC mailing list or (as a last resort) the developer documentation lead. Other technical experts, writers, and editors will be consulted as required, and their expertise will be used to resolve the problem.

Requesting page deletions

Should you create a page by accident or stumble across a page you think should be deleted, add it to the "Junk" category, by adding [[Category:Junk]] to the bottom of the page.

The Junk category is checked periodically by wiki administrators and the pages it contains are evaluated and deleted when appropriate.

Note: Please do not delete other content or categories from the pages you flag as "Junk".

Joining the MDC community

The Mozilla Developer Center is largely the handiwork of a group of volunteers, and we're always happy to help new writers and editors get involved.

</p><p>If we have this process for experimentation purposes only, and if we don’t know if it is going to succeed or not, then that margin of error is the one in question. Shall we take the risks necessary or stick to the fundamental questions of the old church?. Perhaps here is where the “Knights” are needed to defend the Queen and King of mankind’s future-stem cell research.
</p><p>Embryonic Stem Cell Research (ES).
</p><p>The study done in the
United Kingdom is governed by the “Human Fertilization and Embryology Act of 1990”. Under this act any embryo older than 14 days is not allowed. After 14 days the neurulation occurs and the central nervous system appears. (.Panno. J “Stem cell Reseach”……. ch7 para 81-83).
</p><p>This legislation administered by the HFEA about embryonic stem cell, has been a unique effort, and with the government blessings the scientific community, was created to regulate the practice of vitro fertilization(IVF), which was also originated in Great Britain with the birth of the first “test tube” baby, Louise Brown, in 1978.
</p><p>The policy allows researchers, to do whatever it takes to reach their ultimate goal of serving the whole world population with the cure to all diseases. Perhaps this will allow science to design the man of the future, who will be free of inherited imperfections.
</p><p>The conclusion or catalysis for this argument should be, of how much and how soon these results will be effective for us all, of what will be the damages to the human spirit, if the effects or the adaptation to these new concepts will cause a new social reformation.

</p><p>THE UNIFICATION THOUGHT
</p><p>I will base this discussions about the Original Mind, and the projections of it in the field of Religion and Science by my own experiences with the Principle.
</p><p>THEORY OF THE ORIGINAL MIND
</p><p>Unification Thought begins with God.
We call the attributes of God the "Original Image," and we call the theory concerning those attributes the 'Theory of the Original Image."
The question of what God is like is generally connected with that of the origin of the universe.
</p><p>THE ORIGINAL SUNGSANG
</p><p>The Original Sungsang, or God's Sungsang, is the part of God corresponding to mind and represents the fundamental cause of the invisible aspect, or functional aspect, of all created beings.
</p><p>COMMENTARY ABOUT OUR MIND'S EVOLUTION!
</p><p>Let's disallow for a moment all the annals of history and come back to the very first minute we inherited reasoning.

You're welcome to practice your wiki skills in the <a href="en/Sandbox">Sandbox</a>.
</p>
<h4 name="Editing_pages"> Editing pages </h4>
<p>To edit a page you will first have to create an account on the wiki. Do this by going to the <a href="Special:Userlogin">User login</a> page and then filling out and submitting the form. Once you've created an account, you will automatically be logged in and able to edit.
</p><p>In the right-hand column of every page you will now see an "Edit" link. Clicking this link brings you to the editing form for the page, where you can make and preview whatever changes you wish to make, then save them into the wiki. Once you save your edits, you'll be able to see them immediately on the page.
</p>
<h4 name="Starting_a_new_page"> Starting a new page </h4>
<p>The easiest way to start a new page is to create a link for it on your user page, then use that link to enter the "Edit" mode for the page.
</p><p>To get to your user page, click on your user name in the top blue bar of the wiki. If you haven't added anything to your user page, you'll be brought immediately into the editing form for the page where you can add whatever content you like.
</p><p>Creating a link to the page you want to add is as simple as writing the title for the page enclosed with double square brackets, like this: <code><span class="plain">[[Here is an example]]</span></code>. When saved, that will be turned into a link, like this: <a href="en/Here_is_an_example">Here is an example</a>.
</p><p>If the page doesn't already exist, the link will be in red. If it <i>does</i> already exist, the link will be in blue. Should you want to create a new page but the page title you want is already taken, check first to see if it makes more sense to help edit and improve the page that's already there. Otherwise, think of a different title for your new page and create a link for it.
</p><p>When you want to add content to your new page, simply click on the red link you just created and start writing. Remember to use the "Save page" button at the bottom of the editing form to save your work (be sure to save often if you're working on a long piece).
</p>
<h5 name="Page_naming_guide"> Page naming guide </h5>
<p>For more information about creating and naming new pages, see our <a href="Project:en/Page_Naming_Guide">page naming guide</a>.
</p>
<h4 name="Wiki_markup"> Wiki markup </h4>
<p>If you click "Edit" in the right-hand column now, you'll see that the text of this page contains some special characters, for example the "==" marks around headings and the "[{{mediawiki.external(' ]')}}" brackets around links. This is a very simple form of textual markup unique to wiki systems. The power of this markup system is that it's easy to learn and tends to be pretty forgiving if you make a mistake.
</p>
<h5 name="Wiki_markup_reference"> Wiki markup reference </h5>
<p>We have a full <a href="Project:en/Wiki_Markup_Reference">wiki markup reference</a> you can use to learn the markup language as you're editing the wiki.
</p>
<h3 name="Writing.2C_editing.2C_and_reviewing"> Writing, editing, and reviewing </h3>
<p>Here's a slightly longer introduction to the MDC for writers, editors, and reviewers.
</p>
<h4 name="Writers"> Writers </h4>
<p>The MDC is always interested in new content, so you're encouraged to write new articles on whatever <a href="Special:Tags?tag=All_Categories&amp;language=en">topics</a> we currently cover in the wiki. New content can be as simple as a one page tip or as complex as a book-length programming guide or reference. The amount of new content you contribute is entirely up to you.
</p><p>Bugs in the Mozilla project's <a class="external" href="http://bugzilla.mozilla.org">Bugzilla database</a> that impact documentation should be tagged with the <code>dev-doc-needed</code> keyword. This is another great way to find items that may require documentation. Typically, only bugs for which changes have already been checked into the source code should be written up. When the required documentation changes have been made, the <code>dev-doc-complete</code> keyword should be added to the bug.
</p><p>If you're going to undertake a large project, I suggest you join the <a href="Project:en/Getting_started#Joining_the_MDC_community">MDC community</a> and discuss it there first in case someone else is planning to start (or has already started) a similar project.
</p><p>Refer to our <a href="Project:en/Writer's_guide">writer's guide</a> if you have questions about style or usage policies within the wiki.
</p>
<h4 name="Editors"> Editors </h4>
<p>Copy editing is always welcomed in this wiki, particularly to improve or correct writing style, grammar, or spelling. Please see our <a href="Project:en/Writer's_guide">writer's guide</a> for more information.
</p>
<h4 name="Reviewers"> Reviewers </h4>
<p>Technical improvements and review are always welcome. If you're reading through a page and spot a technical error (be it in code or text), please feel free to correct it. If it is a controversial change, make a note in the "talk" page (accessed by clicking the "Discuss" link in the right-hand column) and leave a note that outlines your reasons for the change.
</p>
<h4 name="Writer.27s_guide"> Writer's guide </h4>
<p>We have a <a href="Project:en/Writer's_guide">writer's guide</a> outlining preferred writing style practices for the MDC wiki. If you have questions about usage and style that aren't covered there, I recommend referring to the <a class="external" href="http://www.economist.com/research/StyleGuide/">Economist style guide</a> or, failing that, the <a class="external" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0226104036/">Chicago Manual of Style</a>.
</p><p>We will be expanding the guide over time, so if you have specific questions that aren't covered by the <a href="Project:en/Writer's_guide">writer's guide</a>, please send them to the <a href="Project:en/Community">MDC mailing list</a> or <a href="User:Sheppy">developer documentation lead</a>.
</p>
<h3 name="Migrating_old_documentation"> Migrating old documentation </h3>
<p>One longer ongoing subproject at the MDC is to migrate all currently existing developer documentation from the <a class="external" href="http://www.mozilla.org">mozilla.org</a> web site into the MDC wiki. The procedure is fairly simple:
</p>
<ol><li> Pick a document you would like to migrate from the <a href="Project:en/Existing_Content">existing content</a> list.
</li><li> Refer to the <a href="Project:en/Page_Naming_Guide">page naming guide</a> and decide what the page or pages for that document should be called in the wiki.
</li><li> Create those pages and migrate the content, marking it up as best you can using the <a href="Project:en/Wiki_Markup_Reference">wiki markup reference</a> as a guide.
</li><li> Delete the item from the <a href="Project:en/Existing_Content">existing content</a> list.
</li><li> Add the item to the <a href="Project:en/Needs_Redirect">needs redirect</a> list.
</li></ol>
<p>If you're keen on doing a comprehensive job on this, you'll also:
</p>
<ol><li> Use <a class="external" href="http://search.developer.mozilla.org">our search system</a> to search for any links to the original document in the wiki, then change those links so they point at the new wiki page.
</li><li> Check for <a href="Project:en/External_Redirects">external redirects</a> to the original document, and flag those redirects for deletion by putting them in the "Junk" category by adding <code><span class="plain">[[Category:Junk]]</span></code>.
</li></ol>
<h3 name="Localizing_the_MDC"> Localizing the MDC </h3>
<p>If you're interested in helping translate the documentation in any of the MDC wikis to another language, simply visit the relevant language's wiki and create or edit pages.
</p>
<h4 name="Existing_localization_projects"> Existing localization projects </h4>
<p>Currently the MDC has wikis for the following languages: <a class="external" href="http://developer.mozilla.org/ca/docs/">Català</a>,
