This article covers features introduced in SpiderMonkey 1.8.5

Get the length of a JavaScript string in bytes.

JS_GetStringEncodingLength(JSContext *cx, JSString *str);
Name Type Description
cx JSContext * A context. Requires request. In a JS_THREADSAFE build, the caller must be in a request on this JSContext..
str JSString * A string to encode.

JS_GetStringEncodingLength returns the length of the specified string in bytes, regardless of its encoding. You can use this value to create a buffer to encode the string into using the JS_EncodeStringToBuffer function.

To encode to UTF8, use JS::GetDeflatedUTF8StringLength and JS::DeflateStringToUTF8Buffer instead.
