Talk:Preferences API

From MDC

Heh, the recently added category info - [[Category:XUL:References]] [[Category:Extensions:Articles]] - clearly indicates a problem with our category system:

  1. This is neither an article, nor a reference [although the distinction between the two is rather unclear]
  2. it doesn't apply to XUL-as-an-XML-based-language, nor is it specific to extensions.

Preferences handling is actually a platform API (so it applies to extensions, XULRunner apps, moz code itself), and this particular page is just a navigation aid (so that there is something to link to when talking about preferences). It is similar to the Gecko and Chrome page in its purpose. --Nickolay 03:05, 13 February 2006 (PST)

I've asked you on a couple of occasions to please bring up your major problems with the categories system on the mailing list or in discussion with me, but you haven't. I have also recently asked for input on how to improve the MDC overall, specifically bringing up the subject of categories, and you haven't commented there either. I am fully aware that the categories system is imperfect and probably needs to be restructured at some point in the future, but I would like to know what you think we -should- do with categories, not just what you think we -shouldn't- do. -- dria 05:42, 13 February 2006 (PST)
