Talk:Creating MozSearch plugins

From MDC

I think the way you listed the param names that need to be changed instead of the tag names in the "The plugin file" section is confusing. --Nickolay 02:29, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

Shouldn't this be implemented on mozdev? I'm using Bon Echo Alpha 3 and discovery isn't happening, though it works on other sites. I would do it myself but I don't think it can be done directly from the wiki user interface. --Monkey 21:23, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

See bug 340215 which I filed on exactly this suggestion. --Callek 00:44, 3 June 2006 (PDT)

I have a question about how to install MozSearch plugins that I've created. In Firefox 1.5, I created my own search plugin by copying an existing plugin such as google and changed a few things to have it search an internal company website using the search page there.

However, I tried the same thing after upgrading to Firefox 2.0 but my plugin does not show up in the search dropdown. I could follow the descriptions here and create the file in "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins", which is very similar to what I did before, but I do not know where to put the file or otherwise "install" it to have firefox pick up and display the new plugin.

I also checked the OpenSearch plugin generator at http://www.searchplugins.net/ but it could not find my company's internal pages.

I'm new to this site, so if I need to file a bug report or take other actions, please let me know.
