From MDC

object.filter = "alpha(opacity=" + opacity + ")";

came across this, but can't figure out what alpha() does (it doesn't work in khtml 3.5).

Looks like an IE-ism, certainly doesn't have anything to do with Array's method described on this page. --Nickolay 04:41, 16 November 2006 (PST)
