[edit] Category and it's content

I'm still trying to decide whether this category is useful. The issue is that a category has to have some sort of content in order for it to not show up as an editable link at the bottom of pages, and this seems like an easy way to take care of that without having to write up actual content.

I would agree this could be useful, however I would also argue that each and every Category should have *some* real content, at least a very brief about and a rough "What Belongs Here" for categories, and perhaps All Categories should contain a devmo Guideline article on "Creating Non-Existant Categories" or some such, of course that guideline would have to be created. --Callek 20:56, 20 Jun 2005 (PDT)

I agree that every category should have content, I just think that every category should have at least the All Categories category. Anyone is welcome to expand any category description they like.

[edit] Sub-category suggestion

It seems that categories like Category:JavaScript or Category:Accessibility, which are inserted in their own categories in the main page layout, are simply inserted in the Category:All Categories category instead in some other subcategory. I believe that the organization of Devmo would benefit if the categorization that was adopted in the main page layout was also adopted in the wiki-categorization.

For example, I believe that instead of inserting Category:JavaScript and Category:Accessibility into Category:All Categories, JavaScript could be inserted in a technology category and Accessibility coud be inserted in a General Topics category. By doing that, and also including other related articles into the newly created categories, the organization of Devmo would improve a lot and the information would be easier to find.

What are your thoughts on this? --RuiMaciel 11:39, 8 September 2005 (PDT)

I'm not dria of course, but my thoughts are that ALL Categories should be in Category:All_Categories not just ones deemed as "top level", there could potentially be a "Browse" or some sort of Category used to acheive what you desire though, potentially. --Callek 20:59, 15 September 2005 (PDT)
  • The line between Topics and Technologies is already fuzzy, and I don't actually want to use it for anything beyond a handwavey division of subjects on the front page. Right now please put all categories into the "All Categories" category. I am considering doing a more useful/usable category that will lead into the category tree (rather than displaying the whole thing at once).
    • PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THE EXISTING CATEGORY SYSTEM. If we're going to change it, it will be by me, after a lot of thought, planning, and discussion with our Usability folks. Thanks. -- dria 05:25, 16 September 2005 (PDT)
