With Mozilla 2 work proceeding rapidly, it has been deemed time to start meeting about it regularly. With the combining of the Firefox and Gecko meetings (into the aptly named “Firefox/Gecko meeting”), the Wednesday 11am (Pacific) slot was free and is now being used for Mozilla 2.

Mozilla community “loaner” program
The Community Giving and Empowerment Program has been distributing resources to the Mozilla community for over a year and has already distributed several hundred thousands of dollars in grants, hardware, software, and other services to the Mozilla Community.
We have been thinking about ways in which we could be more experimental with providing resources to the Mozilla community, and have come up with a new idea. Now, in addition to purchasing hardware for contributors who have been around the project for quite a while, we are creating a limited pool of resources that can be distributed to the community on an as-needed basis. We’re hoping to have a few test cases in place by the end of the year. If you’d like to apply, have questions, or would like to read more about the program, please see Seth’s blog post about the project.
Camino 1.5.4 released
The Camino browser project has released Camino 1.5.4, a maintenance release which contains various security and stability updates to Camino 1.5.3. All users are urged to update.
More awards for Mozilla projects
Mozilla projects were given a handful of awards in the past week:
- PCPro UK Software of the Year for Mozilla Firefox
- Two Abril Info awards for Mozilla Firefox
- Two Software Test and Performance awards for Bugzilla
“For the Record” project relaunches
“For the Record” (FTR) is a community-driven public relations and press response program that will harness the energy and knowledge of the Mozilla community to 1) catalog all of the online coverage of the Mozilla Project, 2) develop a sustainable team of spokespeople who feel empowered to respond to online coverage, and 3) build a collection of talking points and responses to frequently asked questions.
If you would like to join the For the Record team and help us further develop the program, simply subscribe to the mailing list. For more information and details, see Asa’s blog post about the project.
Why Firefox 2.0.0.11 happened so fast
Earlier this month, for the first time in project history, we saw two versions of Firefox released in the same week. Firefox 2.0.0.10 came out on a Monday and Firefox 2.0.0.11 came out the following Friday. If you’re wondering why this happened and what it was all about, see John Resig’s blog post explaining what happened and why.
JavaScript 2 and the open web
Brendan Eich recently gave a talk at the @media ajax conference in London, England. He has posted his presentation (with narrative) to his blog: JavaScript 2 and the open web.
