Mozilla 1.8 branch closed for Firefox 2 Release Candidate 1

As Mike Connor posted a few days ago, we are in the process of freezing the branch for Firefox 2 Release Candidate (RC) 1. This means that, as shown on the Mozilla 1.8 Tinderbox, the branch is now closed to checkins other than those explicitly approved by drivers (mconnor, schrep, dbaron, or beltzner if no one else is available) over email or IRC. If you have a patch marked approval1.8.1+ which you have not yet checked in, you must seek explicit approval before landing.

It also means that the door to nominations will be closing to anything other than “show stopper” bugs (regressions of functionality on high frequency use cases). We expect to have the remaining blockers completed by tonight, and the cutoff for the remaining l10n blockers is next Monday morning (September 18th.) Before the RC ships, we’ll also need to square away some remaining server side blockers.

Once the RC builds are ready, we’ll post about them here and in mozilla.dev.planning. In the meantime, if you’d like to help, grab yourself a nightly build and test, test, test against your favourite websites, the Alexa Top 100, and with everyday use.
